This study investigates the marginal propensity to consume (MPC) following a €1000 gain from a lottery win, revealing heterogeneous consumption patterns across various demographic and socioeconomic groups. We employ administrative and survey data, and reported-preferences for estimating the effect of windfall income on the consumption of different types of goods and heterogeneous agents. We apply the method of subclassification on known propensity scores and sampling weights. This paper serves as an extension of Kotsogiannis and Sakellaris (2024), as we use a subset of their sample to estimate the consumption response for various types of durable and non-durable goods. Findings show an average MPC of 54%, with middle-income households exhibiting the highest MPC for vehicle purchases (96%). Households with tax arrears prioritize debt repayment (56.73%) alongside consumption (72%). These insights underscore the importance of considering heterogeneous consumer behavior in understanding the impact of fiscal stimulus on consumption patterns.
Αυτή η μελέτη διερευνά την οριακή ροπή προς κατανάλωση (MPC) μετά από κέρδος 1000 ευρώ από λοταρία, αποκαλύπτοντας ετερογενή πρότυπα κατανάλωσης σε διάφορες δημογραφικές και κοινωνικοοικονομικές ομάδες. Χρησιμοποιούμε διοικητικά και δεδομένα ερευνών, καθώς και δηλωμένες προτιμήσεις για την εκτίμηση της επίδρασης των απροσδόκητων εσόδων στην κατανάλωση διαφορετικών ειδών αγαθών σε ετερογενείς καταναλωτές. Εφαρμόζουμε τη μέθοδο της υποταξινόμησης με γνωστές βαθμολογίες τάσης και βάρη δειγματοληψίας. Αυτή η εργασία αποτελεί επέκταση της μελέτης των Κοτσογιάννη και Σακελλάρη (2024), καθώς χρησιμοποιούμε ένα υποσύνολο του δείγματός τους, για να εκτιμήσουμε την κατανάλωση για διάφορους τύπους διαρκών και μη διαρκών αγαθών.
