Abstract :Graph databases are becoming increasingly famous as an alternative to relational databases for managing complex, densely-connected, semi-structured data. This project is a survey for the most representative APIs and languages used in graph databases, concerning certain types of queries. Even though there are several related works, such as Performance of Graph Query Languages: Comparison of Cypher, Gremlin and Native Access in Neo4j, Florian Holzschuher & Prof. Dr. René Peinl, 2013, we decided to do a complete survey. More particularly, what I do more is that I study various graph databases and especially Neo4j. Apart from that, several different types of queries executed in Neo4j using various languages and APIs, such as Cypher, Gremlin, Neo4j’s native access and Cypher REST. Two different types of datasets were used in order to create our test graph databases. By demonstrating the advantages and disadvantages of each language and API, we can see which of all, is the best solution for every query and under certain circumstances.
