Abstract : | The Peer-to-Peer (P2P) model is naturally extensible to Knowledge Management applications because of its ability to spontaneously facilitate the rapid integration of previously unconnected expertise. Considering this, it can be argued that on the other hand for organization landscapes which are characterized as distributed or matrix, a centrally managed knowledge model can be proved difficult to implement and institutionalize. As such, the objective of this dissertation will be to first and foremost describe the P2P model from a technological perspective and then define and examine the multitude of the ways it can be exploited. Giving particular emphasis to knowledge management, the dissertation will culminate to the proposed design of a P2Pmodel for knowledge management in the context of a European Community funded IT project that is currently being implemented by Information Society S.A.
