Περίληψη : | Decision-making is regarded as one of the basic management activities. Managers are responsible for choosing the optimal solution between two or more alternatives in order to accomplish the companies’ objectives. Effective decision-making results in companies’ greater performance, success and survival. The decision-making process has received a great deal of attention from researchers, who aim to specify the role of particular factors underlying this process. More specifically, in companies, a number of different approaches are applied regarding the decision-making process. However, this thesis emphasizes the four main approaches, which have received a central place in decision-making theory and practice, and include the rational approach, the intuitive approach, the strategic approach and the political approach. In the field of business and management, many researchers have explored the decisionmaking process in depth and have guided the discussion in interesting dimensions. However, there is little empirical research on this process regarding the global economic recession, which has strongly affected the economic, political and social life of many countries, including Greece, and has a dramatic impact on almost every company. Regarding the fact that in recent years, companies have been interested in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), CSR ideas and activities have been integrated into managerial thinking. While being important for that research agenda, there is a lack of understanding of CSR-related decision-making in companies during economic recession. The purpose of this master thesis is to address this gap by exploring CSR-related decision-making processes in companies dedicated to the planning, financing, construction and operation of renewable energy (RE) projects. In order to increase the probability of revealing the processes associated with CSR-related decision-making, case companies were chosen amongst the largest organizations in Greece. The companies chosen for this research were AKTOR Facility Management, ENERCON Hellas, Euroenergy Hellas, General Electric, PSP IKEand VESTAS Hellas. This approach to CSR-related decisions enables a structured and comprehensive investigation of the topic and should be regarded as the main contribution of this thesis. The findings of this research suggest that, in times of economic recession, companies build their decision-making processes regarding the CSR implementation nuances, basedon their strategic objectives. Also, in the same unstable environment, companies werefound to make decisions based on the principles of rationality. The results enrich research on the decision-making process, indicating that the perceptions of crisis result in companies applying social responsibility strategies. Also, the companies’ performance was found to positively affect the implementation of CSR strategies. Finally, based on managers’ perceptions of crisis, companies seem to engage in CSR practices and initiatives based on their strategic objectives.
