Trends in valuing insurance companies: a UK insurance industry overview

Abstract

Στην παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία, μελετάμε εάν η τιμή στόχος των επενδυτικών οίκων επηρεάζεται από τα κυρίαρχα μοντέλα αποτίμησης στον ασφαλιστικό κλάδο του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου. Διεξάγουμε ανάλυση των εκθέσεων που δημοσιεύουν οι επενδυτικοί οίκοι, ώστε να συμπεράνουμε ποιο μοντέλο αποτίμησης είναι το πιο διαδεδομένο στην ασφαλιστική αγορά και εφαρμόζουμε ποικίλα στατιστικά μέτρα προκειμένου να μετρήσουμε ποιο μοντέλο είναι το πιο ακριβές. Παράλληλα, συγκρίνουμε τις εκτιμήσεις των επενδυτικών οίκων και καταγράφουμε ποιοι είναι πιο ακριβείς στις προβλέψεις τους.

In this master thesis, we study if the target price set by brokerage houses is affected by the dominant valuation models in the UK insurance industry. We conduct a comprehensive content analysis of the brokerage houses' research reports, so as to conclude which valuation model is the dominant in the insurance indusrty and we apply various metrics in order to measure the accuracy of each model. In the same time we compare the target prices of the brokerage houses as to assess which is the most accurate in their predictions.
