Sanctions: recent practices affecting the P. & I. insurance market

Abstract

Η διατριβή διερευνά τις σύγχρονες πρακτικές που επηρεάζουν τον ασφαλιστικό τομέα προστασίας και αποζημίωσης, λόγω των κυρώσεων των διαφόρων κυβερνήσεων. Οι κυρώσεις αποτελούν μια αυξανόμενη ανησυχία για την ασφαλιστική επιχείρηση Προστασίας και Αποζημίωσης, με πιθανότητα τεράστιων οικονομικών απωλειών εάν ένα πλοίο δεν είναι σε θέση να εξασφαλίσει ασφάλιση λόγω κυρώσεων. Αυτή η έρευνα παρουσιάζει μια ανάλυση του τρέχοντος περιβάλλοντος των κυρώσεων καθώς και των επιπτώσεών του στον κλάδο ασφάλισης ακινήτων και ατυχημάτων. Διερευνά επίσης τις αντιδράσεις των συλλόγων P&I σε πρόστιμα, όπως αλλαγές στις μεθόδους αναδοχής και συμπερίληψη διατάξεων κυρώσεων στα ασφαλιστικά συμβόλαια. Τέλος, αντιμετωπίζει τα προβλήματα των κυρώσεων και τις προοπτικές για τον ασφαλιστικό κλάδο Προστασίας και Αποζημίωσης, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της δυνατότητας για νέες επιχειρηματικές ευκαιρίες και της ανάγκης για δημιουργικές λύσεις για την αντιμετώπιση των επιπτώσεων των κυρώσεων στους ιδιοκτήτες και τους χειριστές σκαφών.

The dissertation investigates contemporary practices influencing the Protection and Indemnity insurance sector because of different governments' sanctions. Sanctions have been a growing concern for the P&I insurance business, with the potential for huge financial losses if a vessel is unable to secure insurance due to sanctions. This research presents an analysis of the current sanctions’ environment as well as its implications for the property and casualty insurance industry. It also investigates P&I clubs' reactions to fines, such as, changes in underwriting methods and the inclusion of sanctions’ provisions in insurance contracts. Finally, it addresses the sanctions' problems and prospects for the P&I insurance industry, including the possibility for new business opportunities and the need for creative solutions to address the effect of sanctions on vessel owners and operators.
