Economic studies and university education: the case of Greece and Australia

Abstract

Greece and Australia are two countries belonging to different continents and having different culture. This otherness concerns the language, the civilization, the growth, the way of thinking and living. In this thesis we examine certain characteristics that have to do with students of economic studies at the undergraduate level. We basically examine the relation of the students with the University, in the general social context they belong to. Two representative samples have been taken from a Greek and an Australian university. The Greek University is Athens University of Economics and Business and the Australian is University of Sydney. The study was carried to the departments of economics. The questionnaire was composed by Dr. D. Hewitt and Professor Z. Georganta, the collection of the data and the organization of the whole research was supervised by Assistant Professors Eleni Kandilorou and Alexandra Livada as well as Professor Zoe Georganta.

Η Ελλάδα και η Αυστραλία είναι δύο χώρες που ανήκουν σε διαφορετικές ηπείρους και έχουν διαφορετικές παραδόσεις. Αυτή η διαφορετικότητα αφορά στη γλώσσα, τον πολιτισμό, την ανάπτυξη, τον τρόπο ζωής και σκέψης. Σε αυτή την διατριβή εξετάζονται συγκεκριμένα χαρακτηριστικά που αφορούν στους φοιτητές οικονομικών σπουδών τριτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης. Μελετάται κατά βάση η σχέση των φοιτητών με το Πανεπιστήμιο, μέσα στο ευρύτερο κοινωνικό πλαίσιο στο οποίο εντάσσονται. Αντιπροσωπευτικά δείγματα συλλέχτηκαν από το Οικονομικό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών και το Πανεπιστήμιο του Sydney. Το ερωτηματολόγιο έχει συνταχτεί από τους: Dr. D. Hewitt και Professor Z. Georganta. Η συλλογή των δεδομένων και γενικότερα η οργάνωση όλης της έρευνας πραγματοποιήθηκε από τις Επίκουρες Καθηγήτριες του Οικονομικού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, Αλεξάνδρα Λειβαδά και Ελένη Κανδηλώρου, καθώς και την καθηγήτρια του Πανεπιστημίου Μακεδονίας Ζωή Γεωργαντά.
