Investigating the impact of the Russo-Ukrainian war on the financial performance of publicly listed maritime firms in the LNG trade

Αυτή η διατριβή εξετάζει το αντίκτυπο του πολέμου μεταξύ Ρωσίας-Ουκρανίας σε Καίροιους Δείκτες Απόδοσης (KPIs) των εισηγμένων ναυτιλιακών εταιριών οι οποίες δραστηροιοποιούνται στην μεταφορά φυσικού αερίου (LNG). Οι υπο εξέταση χρηματοοικονομικοί δείκτες είναι το περιθώριο κέρδους, απόδοση περιουσιακών στοιχείων, απόδοση ιδίων κεφαλαίων, καθαρά έσοδα προς υποχρεώσεις, δείκτης ρευστότητας, χρέος προς περισιουκά στοιχεία, χρέος προς ιδία κεφάλαια και κέρση ανα μετοχή. Η διατριβή αναζητά για στατιστικά σημαντική αλλαγή στους KPIs δείκτες για προ και μετάπολεμικές περιόδους. Αυτό γίνεται με την εκτέλεση παλινδρομήσεων στα προ και μεταπολεμικά δεδομένα των επιχειρήσεων.

This thesis examines the impact of the Russo-Ukrainian War that took place in 02/2022 on important Key Performance Indices (KPI) of publicly listed LNG shipping companies. The financial ratios under examination are Net Profit Margin, ROA, ROE, Net Income to Liabilities, Current Ratio, Quick Ratio, Debt to Assets, Debt to Equity, basic EPS. The analysis searches for a statistically significant change in the KPIs for pre and post war periods. This is done by running regressions on the pre and post war data for the firms KPI values . The results show that the wars outbreak significantly and positively affected the KPIs of ROA, Net Income to Liabilities and Net Profit Margin. The econometric analysis is repeated for the financials that consist of these KPIs and concludes that these changes are the result of a statistically significant and positive change in the Net Income, Total Assets, Total Liabilities and Total Revenues that were caused by the war.
