Navigating the future of maritime shipping: fuel efficiency, environmental sustainability and supply chain optimization in a changing global landscape

Abstract

Αυτή η εργασία εστιάζει στους τύπους καυσίμων των πλοίων, τα χαρακτηριστικά τους, καθώς και τις οικονομικές και περιβαλλοντικές συνέπειες της χρήσης τους. Εξετάζουμε τον ρόλο των ναυτιλιακών επιχειρήσεων στα παγκόσμια προβλήματα, καθώς και προοπτικές βελτίωσης της εφοδιαστικής αλυσίδας. Εξετάζονται καύσιμα όπως HFO, MDO, MGO, LNG, αλλά και καινούργιες πράσινες εναλλακτικές μορφές παραγωγής ενέργειας. Η μελέτη δείχνει επίσης την σκοπιμότητα χρήσης χαμηλών εκπομπών LNG και καυσίμων υδρογόνου, όπως επίσης και τα κόστη που σχετίζονται. Γίνεται έρευνα στην αγορά ενέργειας, καθώς και της αγοράς προϊόντων όπως στα σουπερμάρκετ, και εξετάζεται πως επηρεάζει τις τιμές αυτές η ναυτιλιακή βιομηχανία.This thesis focuses on the maritime fuel types, their characteristics, and the economic and environmental consequences of their usage. We also emphasize the contribution of the maritime sector towards global problems and the perspective of the supply chain. In addressing these integrated concerns, the study underlines the importance of a necessary change in maritime business operations. The research file considers the most common fuels of the shipping industry, including heavy fuel oil (HFO), marine diesel oil (MDO), marine gas oil (MGO), liquefied natural gas (LNG), and emerging alternatives such as methanol, biofuels, ammonia, and hydrogen. We also research the energy market, while also other markets like the supermarket chains, and the effects of maritime industry can have on these prices.
