Voting coherence and oral cohesion: the European Union in the United Nations

Abstract

The thesis focuses on the pursuit for oral and voting coherence by the European Union inside the United Nations General Assembly in an effort to appear as a credible single political entity at the international arena. The research draws its findings from primary data and official records, in an attempt to estimate the degree of consistency in speaking and voting of the European block inside the Committees of the General Assembly.Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία επικεντρώνεται στον εντοπισμό της ύπαρξης συνοχής λόγου και ψήφου των κρατών - μελών της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης εντός της Γενικής Συνέλευσης του ΟΗΕ. Στόχος είναι να εξετασθεί εάν η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση, μέσω της συνοχής, δύναται να θεωρηθεί ως μία αποτελεσματική και αξιόπιστη πολιτική οντότητα στη διεθνή αρένα διαπραγματεύσεων. Η εργασία αποτελεί πρωτογενή έρευνα και εξετάζει τον βαθμό συνοχής λόγου και ψήφου της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης εντός των τριών πρώτων Επιτροπών της Γενικής Συνέλευσης του ΟΗΕ.
