Τεκμήριο The European Union and the African continent: perceptions and challenges in the 21st century(09/30/2021) Petidis, Pavlos; Πετίδης, Παύλος; Blavoukos, Spyros; Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of International and European Economic Studies; Pagoulatos, GeorgiosOver the last 50 years, Europe has made efforts to maintain its relations with the African continent intact. The Cotonou Agreement was the basic roadmap for achieving active cooperation between the two continents. This dissertation attempts to highlight the elements of dependence that exist in the financial instruments proclaimed by the Agreement and to demonstrate the implications for the regional integration process that the Cotonou Agreement itself seeks to achieve. An attempt is also made to analyze the reasons why Economic Cooperation Agreements and trade aid favor the reproduction of dependent relations. It also highlights the growing role of the People's Republic of China on the African continent in the context of the economic goals set by the Silk Road Economic Zone program. Finally, the key challenges posed by the financial tools of the Cotonou Agreement are highlighted and the aspects of the Common Development Policy that the EU needs to emphasize in the coming years are highlighted.Τεκμήριο Negotiation and compromise during crisis periods: the case of the third Greek bailout (2015) and the recovery & resilience Fund-NGEU (2020)(29-03-2022) Papadopoulos, Savvas; Παπαδόπουλος, Σάββας; Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of International and European Economic Studies; Blavoukos, Spyros; Bourantonis, Dimitrios; Pagoulatos, GeorgiosThe current research presents the basic concepts of compromise in the context of EU negotiations. A framework of the negotiations will be presented, and the idea of compromise will be analyzed in the EU decision-making process. The research will focus on the examination of the models through the extensive theoretical, political and philosophical frame of EU negotiations and will be applied in two case studies. The main goal will be to discover patterns directing EU negotiations towards a compromise. Regarding the case studies, EU negotiations on the Third Greek bailout program and EU negotiations on Recovery & Resilience Fund (NGEU) in 2020 will be analyzed. Comparing the two case studies, final conclusions will establish the factors that determine the form of compromise.Τεκμήριο Non-performing loans: opportunity out of adversity?(06/14/2019) Bairaktaris-Petrovic, Andreas; Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of International and European Economic Studies; Blavoukos, Spyros; Pagoulatos, GeorgiosNon-performing loans have been recognized as an impediment to further financial integration in the Eurozone bringing to light a series of new challenges in the way towards the banking union and has also highlighted to a large extent the weaknesses of the project. This thesis revolves around the subject of credit risk management in the EU periphery, notably Greece and Italy who have most been affected by this issue. It constitutes an effort to provide an integrated analysis of the determinants and the role of NPLs in the operation of the banking system and an exhaustive taxonomy of the available solutions with their respective evaluation.
