The present doctoral thesis conceptually belongs to the broader strategic management scientific field in general and corporate turnaround strategy domain in particular. In essence, this thesis focuses on strategic decision-making under conditions of organizational decline and subsequent turnaround of firm performance. The concept of turnaround strategy is also directly related to the organizational decline research stream. Τhe current thesis aspires to perform a holistic examination of the turnaround phenomenon by bridging the gap between process and content that is typical of the vast majority of extant research on this scientific field. In essence, it examines both the process by which the overall turnaround phenomenon unfolds as well as the content of successful turnaround strategies. However, in order to serve this challenging purpose, we decided to employ a mixed methods research approach, whereby an initial qualitative phase was followed by a second quantitative phase. All in all, this study makes several original contributions to the advancement of the strategic management domain in general and the corporate turnaround theory in particular.
