The latter also explains the scrubber in a simple way, how it works, the basic principles and the types of it available for the marine industry. Moreover, chapter three provides with an analysis of the costs as well as the challenges involved in a retrofit installation. It also analyses the alternative choices for a shipowner if he / she does not install an exhaust gas cleaning system onboard their vessels. The fourth chapter takes into account and analyses the economic and funding aspect of the scrubber fitting. The costs involved in such a process and what could derive from such a decision, possible funding options and who is involved are the main points. The selection 11of installing a scrubber and its funding is not a straightforward decision and, so far, differentiation of opinions even within the same companies might exist.Chapter 5 approaches the effects of IMO 2020 Regulations on shipping companies, cargo owners, charterers, freight and bunker suppliers and provides with an insight of the impact of COVID-19 on the maritime industry. Finally, in the sixth chapter conclusions of subject dissertation are presented.
