Forecasting and combination of forecasts for developed economies

Abstract

In this thesis we are going to present some general theory about the GDP and its significance in every economy. We will continue by presenting the theory about forecasting and then about combination of forecasts. We are going to use combination of forecasts methods in order to forecast the output growth in seven countries for quarterly data. Our analysis reveals that there is instability on the individual predictors, but the forecast combinations have better performance on the autoregressive forecasts.

Σε αυτή τη διπλωματική εργασία θα παρουσιάσουμε μία γενική θεωρία για το ΑΕΠ και τον μεγάλο ρόλο που παίζει σε κάθε οικονομία. Θα συνεχίσουμε παρουσιάζοντας την θεωρία προβλέψεων και την θεωρία των συνδυασμών προβλέψεων. Θα χρησιμοποιήσουμε μεθόδους συνδυασμών προβλέψεων, έτσι ώστε να προβλέψουμε την αύξηση παραγωγής για τριμηνιαία δεδομένα. Η μελέτη μας δείχνει πως οι συνδυασμοί προβλέψεων έχουν καλύτερη απόδοση στις αυτοπαλίνδρομες προβλέψεις.
