This Thesis investigates the factors that affect the survival and growth of new innovative technology enterprises by employing mixed methods. Results from an in-depth longitudinal qualitative case study that examines a mature and constantly growing (in its 10th year of operation) technologically innovative enterprise reveal that the profile of the entrepreneurial team, as well as that of the employees significantly affect a company’s survival and growth in this context. These findings are further corroborated and enriched through a survey with N=27 participating entrepreneurs from N=18 innovative technology startup companies that have been selected out of a population of 900. Specific prescription is provided according to our findings that can be used to guide future theoretical as well as practical endeavors in innovative technology entrepreneurship. Overall, the theoretical contribution of this research to existing theory in entrepreneurship is through the proposition of a set of factors that would explain the viability and growth of innovative technology entrepreneurship. Moreover, our findings can be applied in practice, as entrepreneurs in this area of activity may benefit by following the proposed choices, thus increasing their company’s capabilities for survival and growth. As a result, this article may be of use to all those management scholars and practitioners who, interested in organizational evolution, want to enhance their comprehension about what key factors can improve the survival chances and subsequent growth of firms facing the initial stage of their life cycle.
