ESG ratings and financial performance in United Kingdom and Greece: the course of the fifteen biggest and smallest English and Greek listed companies from 2013 to 2019

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the overall ESG score and the Financial Performance of English and Greek firms through the interval 2013-2019. Two models where used, incorporating monthly and yearly time-series data with dependent variables the excess stock return and ROA respectively. We conduct individual as well as cross-sectional panel regressions in the EViews program for the analysis of our sample, comprising of 30 English (15 biggest and smallest) and 15 Greek (15 biggest) companies, based on their market capitalization, as reported in October 2021. Thesis' structure: Abstract, Introduction, Literature Review, Methodology, Data set and the Variables of the studied models, Analysis of regression results, Limitations and Suggestions for further and additional research, Conclusion of our overall findings.

Σκοπός της παρούσας μελέτης είναι η διερεύνηση της σχέσης μεταξύ της συνολικής βαθμολογίας ESG και της χρηματοοικονομικής απόδοσης αγγλικών και ελληνικών επιχειρήσεων κατά το διάστημα 2013-2019. Χρησιμοποιούνται δύο μοντέλα που ενσωματώνουν μηνιαία και ετήσια δεδομένα, με εξαρτημένες μεταβλητές την πλεονάζουσα απόδοση μετοχών και την απόδοση στοιχείων ενεργητικού, αντίστοιχα. Εκτελούμε παλινδρομήσεις στο πρόγραμμα EViews για την ανάλυση του δείγματος των 30 Αγγλικών (των 15 μεγαλύτερων και 15 μικρότερων) και 15 Ελληνικών (μεγαλύτερων) επιχειρήσεων, βάσει της αξίας κεφαλαιοποίησης αυτών, αναφερόμενης τον Οκτώβριο 2021.
