The use of Ranked Set Sampling in statistical process monitoring

Ranked Set Sampling has been used in recent years to estimate the population mean or variance of a production process and acts as a means to increase effectiveness and reduce research costs. It is an efficient alternative to simple random sampling because of its ability to use additional information by ranking the data. Statistical Quality Control through the control charts aims to control and improve a production process. In this dissertation, the application of the ranked set sampling method and its variations is broken down into the Shewhart, Cumulative Sum (Cusum) & Exponential Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) control charts, as well as into their combinations. Further, a comparison is made between the ranked methods and the classical simple random sampling, while the construction of charts using ranked methods confirms some of the conclusions of the bibliography.
