The changing shape of the mortality curve in early adult ages

This dissertation provides a presentation of the ways to examine the accident hump, that is the excess mortality in early adulthood. Some of these methods are related to the causes of death that lead to this excess mortality in these age groups. Moreover, some basic parametric models are presented which are used to study the accident hump. Finally, three parametric models are applied to empirical mortality data with the help of the statistical programming language, R.
