Τεκμήριο Climate change and economic activity: the impacts, the methods and the case of Greece(02/21/2022) Exintaveloni, Danai-Sofia; Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of Economics; Vasilatos, Evangelos; Kammas, Pantelis; Economides, GeorgeThe present dissertation investigates the phenomenon of climate change and its impact on economic activity, highlighting the fact that the link between the climate and the economy goes in both ways. This means that human activity is responsible for climate change but is also going to be affected by it. It is shown that mostly negative consequences are expected as the variation of climate conditions increases. It subsequently discusses the different methods developed for assessing these impacts, including simpler analyses but also more complicated modelling frameworks, as well as the concerns raised in the literature concerning these methods. The dissertation also investigates the environmental and economic consequences of climate change in Greece with an emphasis on the tourism sector, due to its importance for the country’s economy. It is found that climate change will have mostly negative effects on the country’s overall economy, while concerning the tourism sector there are mixed positive and negative effects. It concludes that climate change is getting more severe and immediate actions and measures are needed for the mitigation of the phenomenon but also for adaptation in the new climate circumstances that are inevitable. Also, research should continue towards developing methods and tools that will allow for more accurate predictions and reduced uncertainty around the underlying parameters.Τεκμήριο Environmental pollution and economic growthNomikou-Lazarou, Irene; Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of Economics; Philippopoulos, Apostolis; Vasilatos, Evangelos; Economides, GeorgeThis essay presents briefly the growth literature focusing on how different growth models take into account the environmental factor. Natural environment inserts into production procedure through the use of natural resources as raw materials needed for the production of the final good. Throughout this dissertation we observe economic literature concerned about how to model environmental pollution and in extension how to treat the phenomenon of pollution accumulation as economic growth increases in order to sustain economic growth in perpetuity.Τεκμήριο Environmental resources and economic growth(02/15/2018) Kokkinis, Ioannis D.; Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of Economics; Philippopoulos, Apostolis; Vasilatos, Evangelos; Economides, GeorgeThis dissertation has to do with a research in one of the most important aspects not only in economics, but in our whole life, the environmental care and more specific, environmental resources and pollution. This topic of interest is widely discussed through the years of economic science, and although in models we seem to have found solutions to the problems that pollutionary actions cause, in real life is difficult to form them. The study consists mainly endogenous macroeconomic models which mainly cope with pollution. Most of the models we use have the economic theory which lies behind, the intuition and finally the results. This study tries to see what problems arise when growth is affected endogenously and what relationship do those problems have with pollution and resources. Also, we try to find what the relationship between environmental regulation and economic growth is and how sustainable is the economic growth with different levels of pollution. These different levels are decisions of the policy makers. We also include a very interesting and intuitive case study of one of the most industrial country of the world. Finally, we try to have some results and some implications for policy makers in the end of each topic so that this research may help not only from theoretical prospect but also in real life.Τεκμήριο Human capital and growth(2/3/22) Koulouri, Argyri; Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of Economics; Philippopoulos, Apostolis; Vasilatos, Evangelos; Economides, GeorgeHuman capital has been part of the economics discourse for a few centuries, and many theoretical and empirical studies have been conducted to investigate its impact on economic growth. The objective of this dissertation is twofold. Firstly, it aims to arrange some of the most influential theoretical models on this subject according to two criteria; whether human capital is accumulated simultaneously with production (learning by doing) or aside of it, and whether it is affecting economic growth directly or indirectly through productivity. Secondly, it aims to gather representative empirical studies and summarise their findings. Overall, regarding formal education it seems that relatively recent studies, which have aimed to correct for endogeneity and omitted variable bias, have dispelled the significance of human capital as a direct determinant of growth, in contrast to older studies. However, human capital seems to be correlated with technology, hence the indirect effect of human capital through productivity enhancement is supported by various studies. Regarding learning by doing, the empirical studies have been mostly focusing on specific industries where its effect is supported by the data, while aggregate cross country studies also provide evidence in favour of spillover effects across industries.Τεκμήριο The main determinants of economic growth: an empirical investigation(05/14/2021) Iliadis, Ioannis; Ηλιάδης, Ιωάννης; Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of International European Economic Studies; Vasilatos, Evangelos; Philippopoulos, Apostolis; Economides, GeorgeΟ σκοπός αυτής της εργασίας είναι να προσδιοριστούν οι παράγοντες της οικονομικής ανάπτυξης και να εξεταστεί ο τρόπος με τον οποίο την επηρεάζουνε. Οι μεταβλητές που χρησιμοποιήθηκαν ήταν: ο ρυθμός ανάπτυξης του Α.Ε.Π (Ακαθάριστο Εθνικό Προιόν), το αρχικό επίπεδο του Α.Ε.Π, το μορφωτικό επίπεδο, ο ρυθμός αναπαραγωγής, το προσδόκιμο ζωής, Ξ.Α.Ε (Ξένες Άμεσες Επενδύσεις), το φορολογικό σύστημα που αποτελούνταν από φόρους εισοδήματος, εταιρικούς και φόρους ακίνητης περιουσίας και οι συνολικές δαπάνες της κυβέρνησης για την εκπαίδευση και την εθνική άμυνα.Τεκμήριο Rational vs non-rational expectations in macroeconomic models(29-02-2024) Λίγδα, Άννα-Μαρία; Ligda, Anna-Maria; Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of Economics; Philippopoulos, Apostοlos; Vassilatos, Evangelos; Economides, GeorgeΣε αυτήν την μελέτη εξετάζουμε την εφαρμογή μια θεμελιώδους υπόθεσης αυτής των ορθολογικών προσδοκιών έναντι των προσαρμοστικών προσδοκιών.
