Elo type ranking systems

The evaluation of players and teams in various sports and games has garnered the interest of many researchers in recent decades. One of the reasons this topic has taken on such a large scale is the apparent increase in media publicity as they are an integral part of our daily lives. Subsequently, the demand for coverage of sports-related positions has drastically increased. This intensifies the need for more and more "fair" ranking systems over time. This paper deals with the recording – evaluation of Elo systems and aims to add a more practical perspective to the understanding and application of these systems in relation to other existing research. The systems to be undertaken are Elo, Glicko, Glicko-2 and MOV. Particular emphasis is placed on the application that the aforementioned systems have in chess, since the nature of the game itself allows it in a greater extent. Applications of MOV are briefly analyzed in football and basketball.
