Τεκμήριο Improving quality of hospital services with the help of Internet of Things (IoT)(2019) Brukhanda, Serhiy; Μπρουχάντα, Σεργκί; Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of Business Administration; Kouretas, Georgios; Philippopoulos, Apostolis; Kardaras, DimitrisThis dissertation presents a comprehensive overview of IoT paradigm and further narrows its scope to available applications within the healthcare domain. Additionally, a decision-making tool is developed in order to aid policy makers and healthcare managers in their effort to improve existing healthcare systems with the help of IoT applications. The decision-making tool at its core uses a model that is constructed based on current and past literature and consists of criteria that affect the quality of healthcare services provided by hospitals, taking into account the direct influence that IoT applications have on quality. A survey was conducted in order to test the decision-making tool by collecting 15 questionnaires submitted by medical experts from hospitals and clinics of the city of Athens, Greece. The survey produced results that have important implications for managerial decision-making within the healthcare domain. One important finding is that hospital institutions should prioritize the implementation or improvement of existing Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Personalized Care systems, because they have a significant impact on improving the overall quality of hospital services. Also, medical experts consider privacy and data protection to be of outmost importance, thus healthcare institutions should take all the necessary steps to ensure that their information systems provide an adequate level of protection to patients’ personal data.
